Parties considering a submission for this tech challenge should revisit this page regularly. It will be continually updated with responses to questions submitted to ERDCWERX on or before January 19, 2021. Prior to this date, questions may be submitted here.
What is ERDCWERX?
ERDCWERX is an innovation hub of DEFENSEWERX, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It was created under a Partnership Intermediary Agreement between DEFENSEWERX and the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) to serve as a neutral facilitator and aid in the identification of potential new partnerships for innovation and commercialization.
Who is eligible to participate in ERDCWERX tech challenges?
Industry, academia, national labs, individual innovators, and other parties are invited to apply for consideration. ERDCWERX tech challenges do not require that the applicant be certified to do business with the federal government.
What is a Capability Assessment?
Capability assessments are a type of tech challenge in which ecosystem and market research are utilized to invite submissions that address a specific opportunity or problem identified by government stakeholders.
Does it cost anything to submit for a tech challenge?
There is no cost associated with a submission to ERDCWERX for tech challenges.
How are participants selected from among the applications/submissions received?
Submissions are solicited and accumulated by ERDCWERX. Teams established by and including representatives of our government partner, ERDC, evaluate and identify submissions of interest. This determines which of the submitting parties will then be approached to discuss possible next steps.
Do tech challenges involve prize awards or other recognition?
ERDCWERX tech challenges may, at times, involve a funding prize award or other form of recognition. This will vary based on the requirements of the individual project and will be explained in the project announcement.
Should submission content be limited to non-proprietary details?
ERDCWERX strongly suggests that the detail provided in online submission be non-proprietary in nature and avoid any confidential or proprietary information.
Why does ERDC have a focus on commercialization of its IP?
ERDC patents a significant amount of innovation which has resulted from the work of its researchers. Although many of these innovations are in response to a request from a federal government agency or military branch, it is often apparent that they could have applicability in the commercial marketplace as well.
How can industry and academic organizations collaborate with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in commercialization efforts?
Organizations that are interested to collaborate with ERDC in the development and/or commercialization process (design, prototyping, limited volume production, licensed production) are encouraged to respond to solicitations issued directly by ERDC or by its collaborative partners including ERDCWERX. These solicitations are often issued to identify parties whose capabilities may fit with a particular project opportunity.
How can I find out about future tech challenges from ERDCWERX?
We encourage you to join the ERDCWERX ecosystem and follow ERDCWERX on social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram) to learn about tech challenge and other project opportunities.
