Acoustic Sensing

Acoustic Sensing Capability Assessment

Overview

ERDCWERX invites submissions that address the following requirements as defined by its government partner, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Geotechnical and Structure Laboratory (GSL).

Problem Statement

The Army requires acoustic sensors that meet specified sensing requirements with increased ruggedization and reduced size, weight, and power to field in an operational environment.

Project Objective

The objective is to understand the market space for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) acoustic sensors that have a calibrated response that extends across the infrasound 2 to low end audible acoustic frequency bands (0.1 - 500 Hz) that meets or exceeds specific requirements identified by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center.

Requirements

Candidate COTS sensors should meet or exceed the threshold (minimum standard) listed below in the table and must be able to provide:

  • A transfer function model for entire calibrated frequency range
  • The amplitude and phase response over the entire calibrated frequency range
RFI Specification for Analog Infrasound

Interested parties are invited to submit a capability statement that details how current sensor capabilities address the requirements. Documentation must be available to validate performance claims.

Provide an approximate lead time for 45 infrasound sensors and any required accessories.

Note: All items submitted in the capability statement shall comply with U.S. Export regulations including, but not limited to, the requirements of the Arms Export Control Act, 22 U.S.C. § § 2751-2794, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), 22 C.F.R. § 120 et seq.; and the Export Administration Act, 50 U.S.C. app. § 2401-2420.

Current State

ERDC seeks to identify what is currently commercially available that meets the minimum RFI specifications and to gain awareness of planned advancements in sensor performance.

Expected Result

The Government intends to use the information received to inform the acquisition strategy necessary to meet project goals.

Notional Project Schedule

Project milestones include:
07 September 2021 Project Announced, Submissions Open
