The Post-Wildfire Risk Management Virtual Workshop, sponsored by the Hydrology, Hydraulics, and Coastal (HH&C) Community of Practice (CoP) and hosted by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), will be held on July 14-15, 2026, in collaboration with ERDCWERX.
As the impacts of post-wildfire events continue to grow, it is essential to align operational practices and technical capabilities to meet current and future challenges. This virtual workshop will provide a collaborative forum for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) subject matter experts to map the current operational landscape, identify key gaps in understanding and capabilities, and define requirements for future tools and products.
Through interactive engagement, this workshop will help shape investments in USACE post-wildfire risk management capabilities and support a forward-looking approach to addressing post-wildfire risks.

Who Should Attend
This is a virtual, invitation-only event. Participants should be USACE personnel roles or expertise in post-wildfire risk management, including hydrology, hydraulics, flood risk management, environmental restoration, emergency management, watershed analysis, and related disciplines.
Attendees should be able to contribute informed perspectives on current operational practices, technical capabilities, and challenges associated with analyzing, mitigating, and communicating post-wildfire impacts. Participants should be prepared to engage in collaborative discussions and share insights that will help shape future USACE investments in post-wildfire risk management tools, data, and approaches.

The objective of this workshop is to establish a shared understanding of the current landscape while identifying actionable priorities that will strengthen the USACE’s ability to assess and manage post-wildfire risks.
Outcome
The primary deliverable from this workshop will be a summary report capturing key insights, identified gaps, and recommended priorities from participant discussions. The report will inform Headquarters USACE strategy development and future investment decisions related to post-wildfire risk management. It will also be shared with workshop participants to promote transparency, alignment, and continued collaboration.
