Prototype Opportunities

Our government partner, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), seeks to utilize prototype opportunities to create a flexible mechanism for public-private collaboration. These prototype opportunities are used to stimulate or support research and are designed to:
  • Reduce barriers to industry participation in defense research
  • Promote new relationships in the defense and commercial sectors
  • Stimulate development, use, and dissemination of improved practices
  • Enable government to acquire prototype capabilities
  • Allow for those prototypes to transition into Production OTs
  • Give Department of Defense (DoD) access to the broadest possible technology and industrial base

The ERDC is an integral component of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering and helps solve the Nation’s most challenging problems in civil and military engineering, geospatial sciences, water resources, and environmental sciences for the Army, Department of Defense (DoD), civilian agencies, and our Nation’s public good. Under 10 U.S.C. 2371b for OT for Prototypes, the DoD provided agencies the authority to award OT for Prototypes to support ERDC's five major areas: military engineering, environmental quality and installations, water resources, geospatial research and engineering, and engineered resilient systems.

How it WERX: Prototype Agreement Process

Picture
ERDCWERX provides the means to bring together industry and the ERDC through a structured engagement platform. This platform is established to identify industry businesses and experts who may have innovative solutions to meet ERDC requirements in the established focus areas, and will allow the government the opportunity to establish agreements using Other Transaction Authority with industry participants.
